Calculators for a household placement desk

Run your own numbers on placement fee margin and desk capacity before your next fee conversation or your next hiring decision.

Agency owners are usually confident about the fee and vague about what the fee leaves. Twenty percent of first year gross compensation sounds healthy until you count the intake call, five screening interviews, six reference calls, the background report you paid for, two family meetings, a trial day that fell through, and the one placement in seven that comes back under guarantee and has to be run again for nothing.

These two calculators do that arithmetic. The first one is money: what one search actually contributes once your hours and your guarantee exposure are priced in. The second is time: how many placements a single desk can carry in a year at your current hours per search. Both start with realistic defaults, and both are more useful once you replace every number with your own.

Open to every placement desk, no sign up

Neither placement calculator asks for an email address. An agency owner should not have to hand over her contact details to find out what sixteen percent of a fifty-eight thousand dollar live-out role leaves once the background report, the driving record, six reference calls and thirty hours of her own week have come out of it. Both run in the browser on the page you are standing on, the figures stay on your screen, and you can close the tab with nothing kept.

They are worth having even if you never look at the placement software. Right now this arithmetic gets done in the margin of an intake sheet or not at all: the fee set against the loaded cost of the search, then a reserve for the one placement in seven that comes back inside the guarantee window and has to be run again for nothing, then the hours per completed placement divided into the weeks you honestly work. Written down once, those two numbers tell you whether to raise the fee, take on a coordinator, or stop accepting the newborn care searches that swallow a month.

When the margin per search hour comes in low

A thin margin and a desk ceiling you do not like are both intake problems, and intake is where they get fixed. A demo shows the same figures coming off your live placements rather than typed defaults, so the fee you agree with a family in January still stands up in June. Bring the fee and hour figures you just worked out and we will start the demo there.
